Pakistan Today: Better or Worse

http://www.military.com/opinion/0,15202,83541,00.html Read this article from 2005, and then re-evaluate the second podcast from today's latest news from Pakistan:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=113899748 What are the differences between the two time periods? Can you predict what will need to be done there? Or what will happen?

  1. I think that Pakistan is getting worser.I think that because more attacks on Pakistan are being predicted. Also many people are fleeing. The differences between the two time periods is that in 2005 there was an earthquake that killed over 75,000 people. The only bright side to this is that so far there are no recent earthquakes.I believe that Pakistan could get better but so far it is not.

  2. Pakistan is getting worse day by day. More suicide bombings and terrorist activities have become more common in every day life. A suicide car bomber set himself off out side a police station and gunmen opened fire on the station. This is only one suicide bombing out of many in Pakistan.

  3. The violence in Pakistan has made a drastic increase in the last four years. In twothousand and five, terrorism among Pakistanians has plummeted to its lowest level in over four years. In the same year there was an earthquake that left three million people homeless. The damages from this earth quake cost over ninehundred and seventy million dollars. As the years move on, it seems as though the Pakisanians have become more and more offensive. I predict that we will need to end the reocurring terrorist attacks, or else they will only get stronger.

  4. The differences between the two time periods are huge. Less than four years ago Pakistan was improving and the people were supporting the country even though the United States was still keeping an eye on them. Now, Pakistan is in a war and many people are upset with the Pakistan government and military. The government of Pakistan feels this is the right thing to do, however, and they have a big advantage with all the troopers. Nevertheless, I feel Pakistan is getting worse. Pakistan needs to improve its own country and make the people safe and happy. The government and economy have to get in order because there is a long way to go. They first need to get out of this war. If not, Pakistan will go in a crisis and the whole world will be suspicious of what Pakistan is doing. Hopefully Pakistan will turn it around right away.

  5. The differences between the two time period is that in 2005 some Muslims stop supporting Al Qaeda because they didn't like it. In the same year there was huge earthquake which killed a lot of Pakistans. The U.S helped them with medical supplies, shelter material, food, blankets and a lot more. So I think it was really helpful for them for while. Although terrorism been going on and a lot of wars and bombing in Pakistan. Also Pakistan been having a lot of crisis and problems. So I hope that Pakistan gets better and have peace.

  6. The differences between the two time periods are very big. With Pakistan, there are wars going around. People have to understand that wars are not good. Things like this should not be happening and that is why the United States is watching Pakistan. They are making sure that they are not causing too much trouble. The crisis with the whole world was just horrible and it should not be happening today.

  7. The first article came from 2005. The second article came from 2009. In the first article, more people began to oppose the War on Terror. In the second article, Pakistan attacked Taliban. My prediction is that the war will end soopn. The two nations will go in peace. I cannot read the whole second article because it always freezes.

  8. I think that Pakistan is getting worser by the minute. All the attacks in Pakistan is not helping their country provide the materials their country are in need of. Their are also millions of bombings in Pakistan. A week ago Hillary Clinton left Pakistan knowing that 60 people where killed from a bomb and 140 people where hurt. All of this is leading Pakistan to where its at now and could be getting worse!

  9. I think that if Pakistan doesn't start to recover the country without a doubt will go under. More and more terrorist attacks are happening and this is becoming and everyday thing. A suicide car bomber set himself off outside and started to fire on the station. This is only one of the many terrorists attacks that have been occurring in Pakistan. The only difference between the time periods is that back in 2005 was a big earthquake that took the lives of over 75,000 people. Now there hasn't been as many ones but you never know. Pakistan needs to change and they need to do it fast.

  10. Between the two time periods Pakistan has been getting bad. There have lot's of violence and war within Pakistan in the last four years. Pakistan is in a big crisis with the suicide bombings and terrorists attacks. Pakistan needs to start to recover their county and get a grip on everything else. If they don't fix their problems, there is more trouble for them.

  11. Pakitan is geting worse in my opinion because there is more terrorist attacks everyday. The difference between the two time periods is that the one from 2005 talked about how big earthquakes took many peoples lifes but today its the terrorists taking lifes. in Pakitan there are things called suicide bombers who are willing to go into a building with bombs straped around them and set themselfs off. This is wrong and Pakistand needs to change fast.

  12. I think that Pakistan is getting worse. There is war and many people are angry with their country. People are getting killed and that upsets many. Before Pakistan was getting better. People were begging to appreciate their country. Now because of all the terrorist attacks many people are trying to get out. They are fighting for their life instead of their country.

  13. The differences between these two articles is very big. The first article says that the Pakistani people don't support the United States War on Terror, and that we should continue to offer non-military support to increase their opinions of us. The second article is about the Pakistani people attacking a terrorist group that is part of the United States enemy in the War on Terror. With this attack, Pakistan is supporting the War on Terror, which they had previously said they did not support.

  14. Pakistan has become worse over the years. In the first article Pakistan was mostly focused on a recent earthquake. If effect over 3 million people. 75,000 left killed and three million have been left homeless since the earthquake. Military troops and soldiers were sent to help send medical help, food, and other resources needed to survive. The second article is different. In 2009 today, their focus is on warfare. Over 30,00 soldiers have been sent to parts of pakistan. These two articles are very different. In the first one the activity in the article was based on soldiers helping their country regain vitality. The second article was about military warfare.

  15. Over the past 4 years pakistan has only gotten worse. In 2005 an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6 that killed over 75,000 people was more of a concern then terrorism. In October 17, 2009 more then 30,000 Pakistani troops to move in three directions along the boarder in fear of more terrorist atacks. the must common form of terrorism in Pakistan is succide bombing which is when someone covered with bombs goes into a populated area such as a building or bus and sets themself off killing hundreds of people along with themself. the movement of the military has lead to many people leaving the country as well as the goverment issuing several new laws in hope of keeping cavillions safe

  16. I think Pakistan has become worse thoughout the years because there is a lot of war and violence occuring there. There is a big difference between both of the articles. The article of 2005 is about the 7.6 magnitude earthquake and the 2009 article is about war and attacks happening in Pakistan.

  17. The first article was written in 2005 but it stated that Pakistan doesn't support the Us and that we should offer more non-military support for their opinion on us. Now, the second articles states that Pakistan attacked a group of terrorist that os a US enemy in the war. Overall, the people from Pakistan aren't really being true to what they said about 4 years ago.

  18. Pakistan is getting worse day by day. There are more suicide bombings and terrorist activities happening more common in an every day life. A suicide car bomber has set himself off out side a police station and a gunmen opened fire on the station. This is only one suicide bombing out of the other bombings, terrorist, suicides in Pakistan.

  19. The violence in Pakistan is increasing dramatically. Everyday there are more suicide bombers and terrorist attacks. 4 years ago a earthquake of 7.6 was much more of a concern than terrorism. As the days go on terrorism is becoming the number one issue. Between the two periods of time the violence and terrorism has increased so badly that that is Pakistan's number one concern.

  20. Pakistan is getting worse by their actions they are making. People are basically fighting for their lives instead of their country which can occur to doing what is best to save yourself instead of the country you are living for. I believe that it can scare us to what should we do but we have to remember what can we do to save ourselves and then help our country, because if we be dead no one will be abel to save that country for our people and generation.

  21. I think that Pakistan is getting worse. There have been more and more suicide bombing and terrorist activity, there are more wars now then before and that is making Pakistans resources short. The time periods of before and now are very different.

  22. Pakistan is slowly getting better. Terrorism is still going on and will not be stopped anytime soon. Troops are around borders now and citizens are fleeing away from the violence. More than 150 people were killed within the first to weeks. But compared to how Pakistan was in 2005 they have slightly improved.

  23. The time periods differ extremely when it comes to the well-being of Pakistan. Pakistan has become worse and worse over the past four years. Before, natural disasters such as earthquakes were taking lives. An earthquake left about 3 million people homeless and in financial and health crisis. Although the United States aided Pakistan financially, Pakistan is still dependent but now terrorist attacks are the bigger issue. Many people are fleeing in fear of the war. Warfare has become one of Pakistan's main focuses. Thousands of soldiers are being placed into the army to contribute to help their country in the war. Pakistan needs to boost their economy in order to keep the country going. I hope Pakistan finds an efficient way to improve their country.

  24. The violence in Pakistan is rising everyday. 4 years ago a earthquake of 7.6 was much more of a concern than terrorism. Terrorism is becoming a very large issue. Between the two periods of time the violence and terrorism has increased so badly that that is Pakistan's number one concern.

We agree with what Kendall3 said about how the violence rises everyday in Pakistan. And how bad the Terrorism is increasing in Pakistan. And it's also crazy about how Kendal said Terrorism is the number one thing that Pakistan is concerned about in their country.

  26. I agree with Kendall3 because"The violence in Pakistan is rising everyday."And I aslo agree with Gillian3 because "Everyday there are more suicide bombers and terrorist attacks. In four years ago there was a big huge earthquake of 7.6. Where pretty much a lot of people in Pakistan died. Although the terrorism "is becoming a very large issue." I think that Pakistan should stop the terrorism preventing their families and homes destorying them. And they wouldn't need to worry a lot and prepare for the next earthquake.
