Without fear and hate: Educate. Be who you are, and share what you know, and help the world open up and GROW!!
Media is the medium by which all people in the modern world recieve information. Television, news, music, the internet, and newspapers are just a few examples of media. Media does not influence my life as much as I believe it affects other people. I try to take every news event with a grain of salt. I try to do my own research if I want to find the truth about something. However, media is all around us and effects us no matter what, we live in an age of technology. I personally get all of my news from the internet or from a classic newspaper. Although I rely on those mediums for my news I also consider if the news is bias or stretched just to peak audience's attention.http://www.mg.co.za/article/2010-10-11-shooting-the-messenger-wont-help
The news has taken over most of the aspects of American life. News used to be only by word of mouth and paper, now its on t.v, billboards, cellphones, internet and still paper. Whenever we want to know what's going on we turn on the t.v or computer and watch the news. But regardless of what we are told most people don't question it. This is where the media takes advantage of the majority, by spreading half-truths to get people to get on there side. I personally don't watch the news, however I do go on yahoo from time to time to see interesting articles.
The media plays a very important role in todays society. It educates us on world issues and informs us of important events all over the world. However the media doesn't always have a positive influence on people. It can sometimes lead to many insecurities, ultimately altering the way we way feel about ourselves and others as well. The media, specifically the internet has become a major marketplace and and important channel of communication.(p.22 Magruders American Gov't book). When i want to find out whats new and in style or even whats going on in the politics I usually watch the news or open up a teen vogue magazine.
"In the last 50 years the media influence has grown exponentially with the advance of technology, first there was the telegraph, then the radio, the newspaper, magazines, television and now the internet." Media has had a huge influence on not only me but everyone in the world. Our society depends on media, people want to know what goes on in the world. Personally, I don't watch the news much but media is hard to avoid, its everywhere. Without it, I would not know anything that goes on in the world. Media is everywhere, T.V, internet, newspapers, journals, magazines, and daily news. I depend on the news to give me information about what is going on and I trust the information they provide. Sometimes though, the information is false, such as magazines. Magazines over dramatize things, and rumors are spread about celebrities because of magazines such as "O.K." and "People." According to this website I found, "Of all the media distribution channels the most influential has been the television, we are constantly exposed to thousands of images of violence, advertising, sex, celebrities and much more, in fact a its known that a child is exposed to about 40,000 ads a year."(http://hubpages.com/hub/Mass-Media-Influence-on-Society)Media is basically unavoidable. It's become a part of society and its engraved in the American Society. The media shapes some of my opinions and beliefs because I hear something that occurs in the news and I shape my opinion about certain things I hear. The world is much smaller than it was because everyone is connected. "Television broadcasting has a large amount of control over the content society watches and the times in which it is viewed."(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_influence)Media has affected me by shaping my opinion. I get most of my information from the news on T.V. about politics and disasters that occur throughout the world. Without the use of T.V. and radio sources, I would not have any idea about what goes on beyond Belmont.
The media is very powerful in changing the minds of the people. This is their job, to make us believe what they believe in. Some ways they do this is by television ads or headlines on the news, internet ads, the radio, and many other ways. "Certain groups tend to argue for media effects in an effort to promote a political cause." (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_influence#Government_and_Mass_Media). That quote states how in politics groups try to get the media to persuade us into following their cause. But these political people who call for this are very smart because they have hit me with all their headline breaking news. All that stuff makes me think about the world and how bad it really is. It makes me look outside of my community and make opinions on some issues. For example, when the US decided to invade Iraq, I heard about it and i totally did not believe it was the right thing to do. Also in sports we make our opinions about teams. There is just a long list of things that the Media does to us and we don't even realize it until we really think about it. It is like the government is controlling our minds in a way trying to get us on their side about what they believe is true or the right thing to do.
Mass media make seem things seem appealing by advertisements, television, radio, and the internet. Media influences people to think a certain way by manipulating us with things that sound appealing and convincing. ..."they can influence people's thought patterns by other means, like "goodwill" stories, pages dealing with entertainment and popular culture, movies, TV "soaps", "educational" programs. (http://ezinearticles.com/?Do-Mass-Media-Influence-the-Political-Behavior-of-Citizens&id=308174)The media tries to influence our thoughts of what is beautiful and ugly, good and evil and what is right and wrong. Most people don't even realize that the media influences your thoughts politically and in many other ways. The media tries to make everything seem convincing.
The media has transformed itself over many years of development. Media went from innocent and informative to prying and invading. "Private life shouldn’t be touched by journalism, except with the express volition of the person who wishes to explore his or her private life." There should be laws against the media, so that we can have privacy. "Reporting which has a chance of approaching the truth - is done with an astringent human sympathy. It involves a narrative which can discriminate between sympathy and sentimentality, and which does not pretend to sympathy when it is in fact an obeisance to power – still and always a prime journalistic temptation, especially when that power is illiberal to one degree or another. It is that journalism which takes as its task the illumination of its subject, from within as well as from the outside." http://www.opendemocracy.net/media-journalismwar/article_1712.jspThe media and other types of news have been in constant competition to each other and has side tracked form the main reason of the media. The main reason for the use of media is to inform the people of what is going on in the world, but even that is flawed. The government censors our local media because they think that we are not capably of hearing such news. The government has censored the "real" news about war, government, and scandals. The media has been corrupted, yet it's still a strong thriving business. This process of media affects my life because not knowing the whole truth, makes me not aware of the struggles out in the world. I could be doing more with my time by raising money and doing community service to try to help those in need. It affects my ability to help those in need.
Media is a means to transport information, whether false or true. In modern times, people are now constantly being bombarded with information in what is essentially a media-overload. We experience media from watching TV, to going on the internet, to reading the newspaper. Even advertisements you see at bus stops are media, presenting selective information to make you think a certain way. With so much information it is hard to discern fact from fiction, and to develop one's own point of view. However, the most important thing about media is that it has the power to communicate to a large group of people very quickly and very efficiently. I get my news from BBC because their audience and their journalists are more international which provides a more global, less American biased news reporting.http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/
The media has become the way in which we hear about the latest news in the world as well as in our communities. Today's society relies entirely on the media and people always want to know what is going on around them. Smart-phones for example, allow you to search the web and access the news wherever you are. This is great as long as you know which sources to believe, but today, the media is censored and the truth is bent, and sources are much less reliable than they used to be. One example would be how the media feels that they should not be sharing horrific pictures and information from war because it puts an unnecessary stress on the viewers, but war isn't the only thing being censored. People tend to be gullible and believe everything they hear without question, but the media may be leaving out key information they don't want you to know. The media can be a great source of information and has become so convenient for viewers that they would never question it, but it is important that we know it can be misleading.
Media is very influential among young and older people alike. Personnally media does not affect me very much for I do not watch television or go on the computer much, but it is for many different people. The media can use news to bring people together, increase nationalism through world news (9/11 coverage), and tell people to be wary of certain areas of town. The media is a very powerful thing, but in the wrong hands it can be used to promote bad ideals such as the use of propoganda through Nazi Germany.
Wheather it is the internet, newspaper, radio, or television, all these are considered to be part of the media. The media plays an important role in todays society, since most of the knowledge that we have about issues around the globe come from the media. Especially when a topic has yet not been public to the people, it is easier for anyone part of the media to start the news, and it makes it easier to get the people to believe in what they are saying, even if it is not true. Even if one might say that media does not affect them, it does. Media is everywhere and we can not really avoid it, it is on the first page when you start browsing the internet and even on the radio when you're listening to music. It is something that no one can stop because the media is so influential. In my case, I depend a lot on the media to get my information about issues that are going on around the world. I do not go for the first thing I see online and usually go for the websites that are known to almost everyone.“The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”(http://thinkexist.com/quotations/media/). This quote definitely describes the power of media nowadays. For any media it is easy to get their news across, if a large amount of people are believing it and/or reading their information."We live in a society that depends on information and communication to keep moving in the right direction and do our daily activities like work, entertainment, health care, education, personal relationships, traveling and anything else that we have to do." (http://hubpages.com/hub/Mass-Media-Influence-on-Society)It is hard to not read the news on TV or the internet, like they say we all depend on the media to continue on with our normal routine of life.
Media seems to be what tells me what to believe. There really is no " truth" only what each side says. And each sides truth disagrees with the other sides truth. So what can we do? Can we live above media? What separates media from arts? I saw an episode of Family Guy that was extremely preachy towards liberals. I heard a song by Jenny Lewis saying " give the new administration a chance." I've heard plenty of country songs in support of Bush and against Obama. Are politics encroaching on everything we have? I once read a fictional story about a man who only read the news once a year, new years eve, when it was everything good that had happened that year. Come November, I think thats when it matters to me. But throughout the rest of the year, I'd be perfectly fine with staying in the dark. Because the light is really just artificial.
The media is a powerful and persuasive force. They have the power to change the way we think and act. To me the news is very important. It helps me learn what is going on around me. The news also helps me form ideas and opinions. Whenever I want to know something I watch the news or read the newspaper. My favorite place to read the news is sfgate.com
The power of the media is overwhelming on how much influence it has on today's society. The media is spread my many ways some examples are Television, Internet, and the newspaper. Websites are updated everyday with news and there is always a news story's to report on TV. Most people believe what is told to them when they see it on a news site or watch it on TV. The media effects me because I believe it most of the time and also I don't have another way to find out if it's true or not. The government might be involved in using the media to report the news they want the people to believe. But I mostly look on the internet to find out something about a event that has happened to see what they said on the news. Also I use the media to find out what things are better to buy so many of the thing I own is because of the media. Many times when I am going to buy something expensive I go to the actual story to make sure the media is saying the correct information. http://www.cnn.com/http://www.fox.com/http://www.nbc.com/
It used to be that the only form of media was news which was not altered; just the facts were stated to inform the public about what is going on throughout the world. Now days there are all kinds of media ranging from news to entertainment and everything else in between. The power of media has had a tremendous effect on people’s lives. It is a place where people seeking information go to whether it is true or not which the media takes advantage of. Through the media people shape their opinions but since most of the time the crucial information is either hidden or altered it creates false opinions leading to all kinds of bad things. When I was younger I used to believe almost everything I saw on TV until the day the crash at Ralston Middle School happened. One of the news outlets had said that 20 kids had died when really only 5 or 6 kids were injured and nobody had died. Since then I have always questioned what I see on the news. I don’t go it very often but sometimes I will go on to cnn to read articles that grasp my interest.http://www.cnn.com/
The media is a powerful influence in todays society. The information in media can be exaggerated, and half-truths. Where people are influenced by media can be in different ways, such as internet, the news, television commercials, radios, newspapers, and even magazines. I believe that the media may have a small impact on my ideals, and most of my ideals are influenced by my parents. Although this may be true, I do not watch television or read the news. But, media is still one of the most powerful sources to get information out to the public. "However a negative influence in teenagers is the use of cigars by celebrity movie stars, the constant exposure of sex images, the excessive images of violence and exposure to thousands of junk food ads." Media is an indirect influence to the children and teenagers that are exposed to it daily. Therefore, the media has such a large impact on the younger generation as they grow up. The media has a large impact on the entire nation.
The power of media is extraordinary and to say it has quite the influence over society would be saying the very least of it. Media is all around us, whether it take the form of advertisements plastered over billboards and sidewalks or if it popups while you are surfing the web. The news can be accessed virtually almost wherever and whenever you need it, though it is not always the most objective opinions presented, but then it wouldn't be the news would it?Whatever you think of the media, no one can doubt the power it holds over the public and on us. We trust these sources to provide us with information on politics, celebrities and just the general news. However, depending on where you hear or see this news, it will most likely be biased towards one side and against the other. This in turn, greatly influences the majority of our society, whereas as individuals we don't really know what to look for and want in our leaders, or just in general. So we rely on different types of media to give us points related to what we feel our perspectives are, even it if it's just loosely connected.Case and point, media is an incredibly strong tool but at the same time, it seems like it also deters us as humans to think for ourselves.http://www.helium.com/items/573945-the-effects-of-media-on-american-society
The media is a powerful resource because it is very influential to the world because everyone watches the news and usually believes what people say is true on the news. It is very persuasive because people are trusting of something someone says in the media. T.V. ads, billboards, commercials, etc. usually have people attention and believe anything they will say from losing weight to making you smarter for something you don't need and you could do yourself.
The media is a very powerful resource. News networks, newspapers, magazines, the internet, all things that every american citizen comes into contact with on a daily basis, thus proving the power of media. People, especially youth, are vulnerbal to the information being displayed on any source of media. Its become a link of abuse in some ways, like the facebook tragedy of the homosexual boy whom was recorded on Skype with his partner. The media is a very powerful source to where it even effects politics. Political figures make absolute that their faces are not streamed in negative sources of media.
Media is very powerful in our lives. In our lives, the things that come into our mind and the way we learn about the current situation in the world is through media. Every single person can not travel around the world every single day to learn about the world, therefore we must learn from sources like magazines, newspaper, televisions, internet and the radio. On televisions we have news, on magazines we have news articles, on the radio we have discussion about the news, and on the internet we have news sites. I personally do not search for news on the internet or in my life at all. I live my life day by day and try to focus on my own life. I realize how important news is but at this point in my life i have better things to focus on so therefore i really don't care about the news. If there is anything important on the news, then it comes to me through other forms other than news related sources. I use sites like facebook.com, cnn.com, foxnews.com and yahoo.com to learn about news related topics.
Media is a very powerful and major part in the average teen's life. The impact, positive or negative, it makes is significant in that the things we learn as we grow up are mostly throught the media. The news and sites like Facebook and Twitter are some of the more influencial examples of media today. One writer views these types of sites as diminishing to their "diction". "Children will never ever be able to possess an actual job because texting and tweeting has diminished their diction" (http://www.blackbookmag.com/article/the-julia-allison-effect-is-social-media-stunting-todays-youth/14883). Many teens also experience a great deal of drama and personal issues through the internet and social media nowadays.
I think that media has changed a lot during the past 50 years, back then people were communicating by sending letters and now we have cell phones, ipads iphones, computers and TV. People who dont have access to a phone have a TV and find out whats going on around the world. People who have smart phones still have the same access but in a much faster and easier way.
