  1. After looking at the chart I was able to see that the unemployment rate has gone down since 2011, we are not in the ideal place but it has improved. Getting a job that pays well while still in high school is pretty difficult, usually students in high school still don't have the experience and knowledge needed to get the high paying jobs. Most of the time high school students get minimum wage jobs. After high school and if the person continues to college and graduates a guaranteed well payed job is not assured even with a college degree. There are a lot of factors that can influence what type of job someone gets after college and if it is going to pay "a lot". Like going into the science and math field in would pay probably a lot better money than someone with a philosophy degree. Still having a college degree can lead a person out of poverty.

  2. By looking at this graph, we can see that the unemployment rate is decreasing drastically in a short amount of time. Millions of people are unemployed every year and the numbers are increasing. The situation is not getting better as every year, the unemployment rate is increasing. Many workers are also discouraged by the rate and so this does not help the unemployment situation. In our future, I don't see the employment rate increasing and so this could affect many people drastically. The rate is certainly not changing any time soon for the better. There will need to be critical changes to the way this country operates.

We think that this chart says that the chances of getting a job after high school or while in high school are very slim, it depends on what type of job you get. for example if you have a degree in technology it would be more likely for somebody in a electronics store or something bigger would hire you. We believe that the field that has the most possibilities of growing are technology and the medical field. This two fields are expected to grow and create more jobs but then again it all depends on the economy of the country.

  4. After analyzing this chart we can see that the United States unemployment rate in 2011 was at about 9% and gradually decreased down to 7.8% in Jan. of 2013. It is now slowly rising currently at 7.9%. This new rise only means that they're more people with no current job which leads me to conclude that it is fairly harder to land a job. We believe that finding a well paying job is harder to find without some kind of degree. Although it might be possible to find a job during high school, it might be harder to find a better paying job without college education. We believe that as a high schooler i have a higher chance of getting into the field of food because it allows the restaurants to hire under age employees and pay them minimum wage without getting complains or having to give more hours.

  5. After seeing this chart it shows that year after year the unemployment rate is decreasing at a very fast pace and by the looks of it the rate will continue to drop over the next years. It makes not only myself but other students worry because with the rates falling so quick the harder to obtain a job will be now and in the future.

We agree with Beatriz/Leti because the unemployment rate has gone down since 2011 and we are not in the right place, but we are moving there. Slowly but steadily. To make a lot of money in this country you have to have schooling before that. Not everybody wants to go through schooling because they need the money now or they don't have the time. This is unfortunate because the unemployment peaks at with only a GED and nothing more. Also, many times when you make it through college a job isn't a guarantee and thats hard to swallow because you debt's keep on rising. However, a college degree betters your chance throughout life to be successful.

  7. After analyzing this chart, the unemployment rate has gone down 2% in the last two years. People who are trying to find a good paying job will have to have a degree of some kind or else it will be hard. That's why they encourage us to do well in school for our future.

After looking at the chart, we noticed that the unemployment has been going down. We agree with Leticia and Beatriz, it is harder to get a high paying job in high school. Mostly high school students get minimum wage jobs. Living in the Silicon Valley, it would be easier for us to get jobs in the graphic arts or electronics/ engineering fields. however, we would only be able to get jobs in these fields if we got a degree from a post secondary school.

  9. I think the chances that you will have a job after high school are better than two years ago. I think this is do to the increasing population of latinos in the US. Like the books mentions, the more population, the greater the demand for more products there will be. If there will be more workers needed thus a greater work force will come from money seeking teenagers. During high school however, I think the requirements to work will keep the employment rate for scholars the same. The major franchise corporations will always be in need for more workers so places like McDonald's and subway will always be hiring since the population is growing.

  10. The chances of getting a job after high school are higher than they used to be but it is still not ideal. In my opinion, it is still better to go to college to get a good education and can then do a specialized job. Getting a job in high school is definitely a possibility but it will not pay very well. It is a good way to get some experience and money though. I think having a college education opens up many options for jobs.

  11. I agree with Sherry, I believe getting a job in high school is possible even though it may not hold you through everything. I believe even though the unemployment rates have decreased that it is still important to have some means of what work is before going to college. To learn professionalism and hard work is good qualities when trying to find a better job which eventually could led you to your career. Going to college is important to gain a higher education and receive responsibilities you wouldn't have before. Therefore you can gain that knowledge and use it towards working for a job that you enjoy and receive more money out of. I also agree with Sherry as she stated that its a good experience and making good money, although getting an education to pursue your longtime future is more important, because you need eventually your future is what is going to set you apart from just a high school job.
